General Information

Common Questions

Will the treatment be painful?

We will take every measure to ensure that your procedure is in no way uncomfortable or painful. If treatment is needed, we will inject a small amount of anesthesia to gently numb a concentrated area of your mouth. For most patients, the feeling of numbness usually subsides after 2-3 hours.

What should I expect after treatment?
  • After treatment is completed, Dr. Patel and his staff will go over Post-Operative instructions as needed for each patient.
  • If moderate discomfort occurs, we recommend an anti-inflammatory medication such as ibuprofen (ex. Advil, 600-800 mg., 3-4 tablets every six hours). Aspirin as a second choice is recommended. Tylenol is a third choice for those who cannot take ibuprofen or aspirin. If a prescription pain medication is also required, take it as prescribed.
  •  If antibiotics are prescribed, be sure to follow the directions and finish the course of medication completely. If side effects occur (i.e., nausea, diarrhea, itching or rash), discontinue the antibiotic immediately and call our office.

Will I need to return to your office for follow-ups after the procedure is finished?

Yes, for most root canal treatments, we recommend that patients return to the office 1 year after the procedure was finished. Our office will send a reminder notice to you when you are due for a recall appointment.
